When I was a young boy, I spent a great deal of time with our family Bible. What fascinated me were a chapter of pictures, congregated in the middle. It contained about twenty pages of biblical scenes, both Old and New Testament. Some that stayed with me were Satan tempting Jesus with riches, the exodus of Israelites across the desert, and the Virgin Mary ascending to heaven. In this particular image, Mary was riding a golden light up into heaven opening clouds. This scene looked very much like the cloud patterns of North Texas where I lived. We saw strange and powerful storms every spring. Frequently, great shafts of light would penetrate the cloud banks. I believed that God was going to open up the heavens right before me. I just had to be patient and look.
When I was nine years old, my brother and I were in the backyard of my mother's cousin's home, playing catch with a football. All at once we noticed a bright object hovering above the large oak in the yard. It stayed there for several moments, shining silently. All at once it disappeared. I became obsessed with looking for signs in the sky ever since. These images are the searching.
